Our numbers that speak

Over the past two years, our small team of volunteers has provided more than 1,000 meals to families in the Sunapee community. This is in addition to the support we provide to the Sunapee School District through our daily snack milk program and our classroom snack program.

Our Story

With the receipt of a generous donation in association with Mary’s role with the Sunapee Farmers market’ the idea for Mary’s Food for Thought was formed.  With the support of Project Sunapee we were able to quickly form and start carrying out our vision.

We began supporting vulnerable children in our community by providing weekly food bags to local families during the summer. These bags included healthy snacks and meals for children who rely on the free and reduced lunch program at school and may not have that support when school is out.

The initiative quickly grew as community members stepped up with donations and support. As our team expanded, we were able to reach more families and provide a greater level of support. We built strong relationships with the families we serve and asked children what foods and snacks they needed most. Through this, we realized we wanted to continue supporting families during the school year and find more ways to partner with the Sunapee School District.

About Mary:
There was something about Mary. As her Pa likes to say, ‘Mary was unique’. She was tiny in stature but packed with personality. She was loved by people of all ages for her sweet nature, beautiful smile, strong work ethic, witty banter, and generous spirit. Mary grew up in Sunapee and attended Sunapee schools. She was a huge fan of Sunapee high school sports, and loved and gave back to her community. Throughout her high school and college years she served as a loving and caring nanny/babysitter for a number of families, spent her winters working at Mount Sunapee, and her summers managing Stacy’s Smoothies, and the Sunapee Farmer’s Market. Mary graduated from the University of New Hampshire Peter T. Paul School of Business and Economics in the spring of 2022. She started her first job at Fidelity Investments in the fall after graduating and had begun studying for her financial investment licensure. Mary had a clear vision of what she wanted in life and had big plans. As she would often say, she ‘couldn’t wait for what was to come’. With her sights set high, there was no doubt that she would achieve everything that she set out to do. Those who knew her would attest that with her strength and determination she was destined for great success.
